JOKES.COM:
The main objective of the Jokes.com relaunch was to finally give it its own branding outside of comedycentral.com. I was responsible for designing the Jokes.com logo, overall branding/look & feel and website. I created a mood board of inspiring images and ideas that Creative Director Caroline Gould & I tossed back and forth via email until we agreed on pop art to inform the design. It began with the idea of integrating stylized comedian images into the website redesign. Silhouetting comedian headshots and adding a stroke gave them a button or sticker-esque quality and more prominence than a square photo.
phase1. Logo: Achieved via Hand drawing, Hand Lettering, illustrator & Photoshop

phase2. Website: Achieved via Illustrator & Photoshop. After I established a rough logo, look & feel (color palette, fonts, textures) I and the other designers on my team got to play with those parameters and create page design concepts. It was a fun couple weeks of collaboration and in the end I (with the help of one other designer) went to work refining and constructing the actual pages of the site.

The Jokes.com re-branding is the first time a logo or design was created within the digital media group and implemented across the entire Comedy Central brand. Jokes.com continues to lead as the most trafficked property of Comedy Central.com, outpacing even The Daily Show.com and Colbert Report.com site, according to comScore data.

EXPANDING ON THE JOKES.COM BRAND: STAND-UP SHOWDOWN
For contests that live on Jokes.com, including the yearly Stand-Up Showdown (SUSD), I was tasked with creating pages with a look & feel in line with Jokes.com but giving more eye-catching flair.
Combining the look of SUSD with Jokes.com was a fun and interesting challenge for me because it needed to be flexible enough to reuse for the following years. My solution impressed both creative directors online & on-air.

One of our greatest achievements for the SUSD 2009 site was creating a layout with embedded videos. For the first time users did not have to navigate away from the voting page to watch videos. It was also the first page (for any MTV Network channel) to utilize and integrate a Twitter feed. These improvements lead to the SUSD’s most successful year to date with a 900% increase in votes over the previous year.
